Overview

Varicose veins, also known as Varicosities or Varicoses, happens when any vein (generally in the leg) abnormally swells up. The main cause of Varicose Veins is high blood pressure in the veins which weakens the veins and leads to the collection of blood in the veins.

Symptoms

Symptoms of varicose veins are: Heavy feeling in the legs Bleeding from the varicose veins Throbbing, burning feeling in the lower legs Cramps Veins turn into blue or purple in colour.DFDAFF

Diagnosis

A varicose vein is diagnosed through a physical examination. The specialist may conduct an ultrasound test if the patient is not able to walk properly. Ultrasound test helps to analyze the blood flow in the veins and find any evidence of a blood clot.


Treatments

Varicose veins are treated through less invasive procedures and can also be treated on an outpatient basis. .. Self care A patient can exercise, avoid sitting and standing for a long period, lose weight and avoid wearing tight clothes. Self care can prevent varicoses from getting worse. Sclerotherapy In this therapy, the specialist injects a solution that helps to scar and close the vein. Sclerotherapy treats varicose veins in a few weeks and the veins fade. Compression stockings Compression stockings are used to squeeze the patient's legs which help to move the blood more efficiently.


Prevention

Varicose veins can be prvented by adopting the following means: Regular exercise High fibre and low salt diet Avoid tight hosiery and high heels Watch your Weight
