World TBDay is celebrated on March 24th every year to raise awareness about the globalepidemic of tuberculosis (TB) and to mobilize efforts to eradicate the disease. This day also commemorates the discovery of the TB bacteria by Robert Koch in1882. TB is spread through the airwhen infected individuals cough, sneeze, or speak, and can be fatal if leftuntreated. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), TB is one of thetop 10 causes of death worldwide, and in 2020 alone, there were an estimated 10million new TB cases and 1.4 million TB-related deaths.

To eradicate TB by 2030, the WHOhas set ambitious targets, including reaching 100% TB screening and treatmentcoverage, reducing TB deaths by 90%, and eliminating catastrophic costs for TBpatients and their households. Achieving these targets will require a concertedeffort from governments, healthcare providers, researchers, and communitiesaround the world.
