20thMarch is the day which is observed as World Oral Health Day every year tospread awareness among people to take care of their oral health. It has alwaysbeen important for people of all ages to understand that oral health issomething which is a must for them to eat healthily and prevent severe diseaseswhich cause oral health issues. A study conducted by Statista reveals thatthere are 2 billion people in the world who are suffering from tooth carieswhereas more than 540 million children are suffering from issues related toprimary teeth. In addition to this, the eating habits and lifestyles adopted bypeople around the world have also become a significant reason for causing oraldiseases.

People incountries such as India and other Asian countries consuming tobacco and otherharmful substances are also at severe risk of dental issues and oral cancer. Thereport prepared by World Health Organisation (2023) reveals that there has beena significant role of tobacco in causing oral cancer as well as tooth decaywhich lead to several other health problems for people. Additionally, peopleare unaware or ignorant towards oral healthcare which makes it difficult forthem to take care of their teeth which are very important for living a healthylifestyle.

Therefore,20th March is observed to spread awareness among people across theworld to understand the importance of Oral Health for people. This day tends toallow people to show responsiveness towards oral hygiene and feel considerateto adopt better healthcare practices to protect their teeth from decay, cavityand other oral diseases. In addition to this, it also brings awareness amongchildren to brush their teeth twice a day and after every meal. This allowsparents to keep an eye on the oral health of their children and guide them toadopt such habits which are likely to help them maintain their lifestyle. Italso tends to promote visiting dental clinics which could help people maintainstrong oral health.
