The Unit

The Unit is divided into the following distinct areas:

  • High-dependency Unit

This caters to the treatment of the critically sick infants, who require ventilation (life support) and intravenous feeding. This level of care is called Level 3 Neonatal Care equipped with 9 beds with multi channel monitors, infusion pumps and bubble CPAP ventilation facilities.

  • Low-dependency Unit

For infants who require close monitoring and care such as supplemental oxygen for respiratory distress or phototherapy for jaundice. This level of care includes tube feeding and also includes the care of babies recovering from illnesses or operations like Tracheoesophageal Atresia/ Dichromatic Hernia.

  • Isolation Unit

The Isolation room is facilitated to cater to babies needing strict infection control measures, such as those suffering from severe sepsis.

  • Rooming-in Unit

Infants and their mothers are given a chance to bond together prior to discharge. The mothers are also helped to manage their babies confidently before discharge and trained to attend the special needs of their infants/ new born.

Besides ultra modern equipment, the NICU has the following facilities:

  • Surfactant and other respiratory intensive care support systems
  • Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN)
  • Surfanctant Therapy for HMD in the Neonates
  • In House Ultrasound and Electroencephalography (EEG)
  • Highly complex, investigative services including MRI, CT scans, metabolic and laboratory tests, echocardiography etc.
  • A special prayer room in the unit where family members can pray for their sick child and a play room for child to play with their parents. Most of the babies are fed with their mother's milk and we encourage the presence of mothers. Parents are free to visit their babies at any time.

Other Services

Neonatal Transport Ambulance

Rama Hospital runs a neonatal transport ambulance service round the clock, which reaches babies in distress and brings them to the NICU. We offer this service to hospitals in and around the region of NCR. Our ambulances are well equipped with necessary equipment and are manned by our resident doctors. High-risk babies thus receive high quality medical care right at the point of birth.

High Risk Baby Follow-up

All high risk babies undergo developmental follow up for early identification of developmental problems. The infants are assessed for growth, development, vision and hearing. These early intervention programs for high-risk infants are backed by excellent rehabilitation support.
